"As medical students, and self-described "idealists" of the AMA, I believe that we can contribute a novel perspective to our AMA and that we are in a unique position to use that perspective to encourage change within our profession. Many of the issues important to medical students involve our ability to provide the best care we can for our future patients while simultaneously managing our personal and professional lives. Several issues that come to mind include: closing the gap in healthcare disparities, increasing GME funding and residency positions, decreasing student debt, providing support for our colleagues dealing with mental health & substance abuse, as well as increasing medical student political activism and awareness for our changing medical landscape."
THIS IS MY P.S.A!
Patients matter Most
* They are the corner stone of all we do in the AMA and my driving force for advocacy.
* The patient-physician relationship is sacred and I promise to uphold it as trustee.
* I've written resolutions, supported
policies and advocated at various levels of goverment to protect patient rights.
S tudents are Priority
* I believe in the value of our idealism and optism which we bring to the AMA.
* Helping students find their place within our MSS is a driving force behind my involvement in our section.
* I've addressed legislative subcommittees on the importance of GME funding and student debt relief and its impact on residency choices.
A MA engagement is Paramount
* Together both the MSS and AMA are able to drive big initiavites and ideas to shape a better, healthier future – not just for patients and physicians, but for the country as a whole.
* I believe that with our changing health care system we must be at the table to solve the many problems. The AMA gives us a voice at that table.
* I believe being engaged in our AMA & MSS is an oppourtunity to be a part of something bigger than yourself. It's an oppourtunity to make a difference in countless lives for the better.
