The AMA Board is comprised of a diverse group of physicians and professionals, each with a unique set of strengths. My experience as a student representative board member, leader, legislative advocate, and mentor allows me to see medical issues from many perspectives. Being a board member to my county, my state, and the AMA Foundation has given me a very distinctive experience in consensus building among strong personalities. These relationships have led to positive working relationships with current AMA board members, which will allow me to make an immediate contribution to governance while upholding my fiduciary responsibilities. As Chair of the Michigan MSS, I worked hard to improve collaboration among a diverse and growing student body. During my tenure as AMA Foundation Board member, I introduced a student-driven funding initiative that helped raise over $2,200 in its inaugural debut, providing integral support to the various charitable grants and scholarships of the foundation. I also spear-headed the partnership between the Foundation and the MSS Council on Global and Public Health that distributed over 100 toolkits to clinics across the country as part of the health literacy campaign. Throughout my involvement in the AMA, I have addressed issues important to medical students and patients by authoring resolutions ranging in scope: recognition of human trafficking victims, protection of medical students as patients, and removing MSM as an exclusionary criterion in blood donation. From these experiences, I have learned the importance of innovation, collaboration, and advocacy, all of which I will demonstrate as your representative on the AMA Board of Trustees.
